Our Story

Lifehouse and our partners, the Marin County Office of Education and Dominican University, opened a preschool in 2018 for children of all abilities. Mary Jane Burke, the Marin County Superintendent of Schools, is “thrilled about this opportunity to offer a positive, enriching preschool experience for children of all abilities. It is our hope that this will develop into a best practices model”. As it is the Lifehouse mission to provide services to enable each individual to live a full life and to be integrated into the community, the preschool will be a great opportunity to begin the process of positive socialization and academic readiness for young children with of all abilities. Ultimately, our goals are to show how inclusiveness is beneficial for all parties involved and serve as a model for future inclusive preschool classrooms both in Marin County and nationwide.

Our Philosophy

Great Expectations is a play based inclusive preschool for children aged three through five years old. The learning activities offered throughout the day are developmentally appropriate to the students in attendance.

Students of all abilities are supported by qualified and experienced teachers, specialists and paraprofessionals to explore, experience and participate in a variety of activities. The children have opportunities to learn throughout their day at Great Expectations, including at lunch, outdoor playtime and during free play.

A low student to teacher ratio allows us to provide a nurturing, safe and supportive environment where the teachers are sensitive to each child’s needs.
